I would like the option to display standard tab instead of the coloured animated bouncy ball graphics. I find it all a bit off putting, and you're unable to see far enough ahead to prepare your left hand position for what's coming up. I also find the colour coding difficult to remember so have to keep checking the picture then bugger up the playing
As someone who works in the field of data visualisation and behaviour I would offer the informed opinion that colour is subjective and therefore must be learned. This adds an additional visual encoding to learn beyond note position which is ultimately forgotten later on when it is no longer required. The standard approach in music notation would appear to be sparse numbering, so as to reduce the additonal perceptual and cognitive load.
To those who might say 'ignore the colours', this is simply not possible. Your eye and brain cannot unsee and ignore patterns anymore than it can unsee an optical illusion.
To the developers of yousician, you are adding an additonal layer of difficulty by using colour. Please conduct a series of simple usability tests around this and you will find this to be the case in the majority of people.
Couldn't agree more - just what I need (and by what I have been reading, so do a lot of users). I need to see the piece as a whole.
Yes, this would be extremely useful.
It would be handy for learning to read other musical formats if you could switch between your default notation (great for learning), standard tab and standard musical notation.
