Synthesizer sounds for Piano path
The MIDI piano sound is currently set to a default 'piano' sound only, it would be great if users could select their own sounds from a palette of presets, or the sound would be switched according to the song style you play (e.g. when you're playing accompaniment, it changes to a string ensemble, for example)
It's always possible to connect an external synth, in which case Yousician can send the appropriate MIDI Program Change messages to select the proper sound which is bundled with the song.
It would be great to be able to choose between different sounds for the piano or make a link with Garage Band to choose different sounds.
Please make this update. If I want to play with my headphones on, the only output from my 2indows 10 PC is a super basic synth (assume thats windows default). You should be able to choose different sounds within Youscia
TL;DR Yousician's piano synth is terrible. There's a reason for it that makes as little sense as its design. Yousician needs a piano synth that works well.
Now for the longer version:
Currently Yousicians' piano synth doesn't adjust the amplitude of sample playback with note input velocity. This makes it sound quite bad.
The problem seems to lie in sound font playback. Ys does know the velocity, but it doesn't really do anything sensible with it.
This makes the internal synth totally useless for any serious learning. Given the sheer amount of people with midi keyboards I fail to see why this is the case.
There's even free sound fonts that sound massively better than Ys piano synth.
I understand that not all devices transmit velocity, but Ys should not be concerned with those.
The app needs full sound font support and it needs to start responding to standard basic midi messages regarding note playback on piano - velocity, sustain, una corda and even sostenuto.
